Nano Technologies Investments: Why To Get Involved
Decades have come and gone since Nanotechnology was first introduced.
During this time the nano technologies investments market has changed and expanded and literally become an essential part of technology and science and really, how we view the world in general.
Everything you can think of uses nanotechnology in some form or fashion, from cars and trucks to dental implants and hair products.
But, even though it is prevalent, that doesn’t mean it’s easy to understand.
Nanotechnology is best defined as the ‘science, engineering, and technology, that is conducted at the nanoscale.’ The nanoscale is very, very, small and to put it in a perspective that is understandable, a sheet of newspaper is about 100,000 nanometers thick. One inch is roughly 25 million nanometers in thickness.
Nanoscience utilizes tools like the scanning tunneling microscope, or STM, and the ATM, or atomic force microscope, to examine the atoms and molecules that comprise our world.
Nanoscience is applicable across a wide range of scientific fields, including physics and chemistry.
Nanotech is what is known as an interdisciplinary technology.
What Does This Mean?
What this means is that it can be applied to a wide range of industries. Industries such as environmental science, information technology, transportation, and food safety, have all benefited from its innovations.
According to the National Nanotechnology Initiative, there are well over 800 commercial, everyday, products that utilize and rely and nanotechnology.
One of the best examples of this is electronics. The majority it the electronics that we use in our everyday lives are dependent upon nanotechnology.
Items such as cell phones, laptops, iPads, televisions, etc incorporate nano structured polymer films that brighten images, widen viewing angles, decrease power consumption, display better, sharper pictures, and last longer lifetimes.
Nanotech can also be used to turn the waste heat generate by these devices into usable electrical power.
Nanotech also plays a vital part in the healthcare industry.
It has been employed in the early diagnosis of atherosclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease. As you might expect, cancer is the main scope of the nanotech market.
There are a vast number of ways that nanotechnology has benefited cancer patients, one being the use of nanoparticles platform to facilitate the specific targeting of cancer cells. What this does is keep healthy tissues from being destroyed at the same time, which as everyone knows, is the main problem with chemotherapy.
Not only does chemo destroy cancer cells, it destroys health ones as well. Nanotech is helping to minimize that effect.
Because of its versatility, the nano technologies investments market continues to grow by leaps and bounds on a daily basis. Just a couple of years ago, corporations, governments, and venture capitalists invested nearly $19 billion in the nano technologies investments marketplace.
That number is even greater today. 36% of this capital came from the United States, which included 2.1 billion from the federal government and another $ billion from corporations.
As the market continues to expand and grow, even more money will be invested in nanotech and there is no reason to think that is going to change anytime soon.
The benefits from the technology are massive and no matter what industry it is involved in, it makes life easier in every way.
The overall outlook for nano technologies investments is excellent as giant companies such as 3M continue to use nanotechnology in nearly all of its products, some of which are destined for things like dental implants, electronics, architecture, and energy. By 2021, the annual growth rate of 16% is expected to result in a $12.83 billion industry.
The astronomical growth rates of the past will not be seen again, but nevertheless, the growth in the nanotech field will continue at a healthy pace.
There are also many smaller market companies in the nanotech field that are going to continue to be important players as time goes by.
Companies such as Nan Dimension, Nanotech Security, Nanophase Technologies, and NanoViricides, all play very important roles in fields as diverse as criminal justice to 3D printing.
NanoViricides was founded in 2000, but is currently developing a a nanotechnology based biomimetic anti-viral medicine called nanoviricides.
Taking all these aspects into consideration, investing is nanotech is a pretty attractive investment.
There are so many different fields that are affected by this technology that it is hard to go wrong in investing in one.
The field remains wide open and the uses seem quite literally endless.
